In terms of ranking, there are no new faces in the list, among the top 10, Qingdao port ranking rose 1 position to 5th, Guangzhou port correspondingly fell 1 position to 6th; 11-20, Dubai port and Antwerp port respectively advanced one, Port of Klang fell 2 positions, New York / New Jersey port and Kaohsiung port, Linchaban port and Hamburg port respectively swapped positions.


From the growth rate, only 10 ports grew at a positive rate, the top three in the breakaway lead, the Port of Shanghai by the April and May closure control, the second quarter container throughput fell significantly, the first half of the container throughput fell 1.8% year-on-year; Ningbo Zhoushan port in the same Yangtze River Delta region so take a lot of goods transfer, the first half of the container throughput rose 8.8% year-on-year, reaching 17.48 million TEU. The difference with the second place Singapore port is only 926,900 TEU, while the gap is 2.66 million TEU in 2021 and up to 4 million TEU before the epidemic, Ningbo Zhoushan port has surpassed Singapore port in the second quarter of 2022. By the end of June, the total number of container routes in Ningbo Zhoushan Port had reached 300, and after Shanghai Port gradually recovered in June and July, Ningbo Zhoushan Port's monthly container throughput still exceeded 3 million TEU, and exceeded 3 million TEU for four consecutive months from April to July.

Busan port's ranking did not change, but the volume of boxes fell 2.1%, the top 20 container ports, transshipment cargo accounted for a relatively large share of the Port of Singapore, Busan port, Hong Kong port, Port of Klang, Tanjong Parapath port, Kaohsiung port growth rate are declining, the Port of Dubai also increased by only 1.2%. In Malaysia, which has two major ports in the top 20, Port Klang's container throughput declined by 7.4% year-on-year, and Tanjong Parapath Port declined by 5.8% year-on-year. According to the data from the Ministry of Transport of Malaysia, Port Klang's import and export in 1Q 2021 was 687,500 TEU and 698,600 TEU respectively, and the volume of transshipment containers was 2,081,000 TEU, and import and export in 1Q 2022 are 704,800 TEU and 698,900 TEU respectively, up from 2021, while transshipment volume drops to 1,803,700 TEU.


This indicates that in the hottest China to U.S. West routes in the first half of 2022, transshipment ports have become losers, with cargo from China being delivered more directly to U.S. hub ports and no longer calling at various transshipment ports in order to fight for time in the congested supply chain.
