The northern dock of China's ocean drilling vessel opened to meet global standards for docking research vessels
On May 6, the inauguration ceremony of the northern dock of the Ocean Drilling Vessel of the China Geological Survey of the Ministry of Natural Resources was held on the shore of Aoshan Bay, marking the opening of the northern dock of the Ocean Drilling Vessel of China.
The dock is one of the homeports of the Ocean Drilling Vessel, the 'national important tool' for deep-sea exploration in China. Located on the west side of Chai Island in Jimo District, Qingdao, the pier started construction in March 2021 and has been largely completed.
The construction area is 900 mu, with 350 meters of quay (including 1 berth for gas hydrate drilling vessel and 1 berth for drilling support vessel); the land area is 94 mu, with 4 single buildings including ship dispatching command communication and remote monitoring center, and 12,260 square meters of construction yard.
The wharf construction standard is in line with the world's first-class high-standard deep-water research wharf, with ship docking, preparation and supply, command and dispatch, maintenance and other functions, to meet the global research vessel docking with standards.
The Ocean Drilling Vessel is the first ultra-deepwater research vessel designed and built independently by China for deep-sea drilling of 10,000 meters, with the ability to operate in unlimited navigation areas and drilling capacity of more than 10,000 meters in global waters.
The completion and operation of the terminal will provide a strong base for the gas hydrate drilling vessel (ocean drilling vessel), help accelerate the industrialization process of gas hydrate exploration and exploitation in China, promote the implementation of China-led deep-sea scientific drilling international scientific program, and strongly support the strategy of 'deep sea entry, deep sea exploration and deep sea development'. It is of great significance to enhance China's marine geoscientific research level and international influence, and to support the security of national energy resources and the construction of a strong ocean state.
