Hudong-Zhonghua Reaches Order for 100th LNG Carrier (Equipment)
On July 25, this reporter learned from Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd. that Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), together with China State Shipbuilding Industry & Trade Corporation (CSSC), has won the order of 1+1 LNG Carrier (equipment) project of France Total Energy Company with the world's latest V3-0 version of 18,600 cubic meters LNG refueling vessel. Hudong-Zhonghua, with its strong R&D, design and construction capability in the field of LNG equipment and its good reputation and influence in the market, has won the order for the construction of 1+1 18,600m3 LNG refueling vessels of the world's newest V3.0 version from France's Total Energy Company. This is the 100th LNG carrier (equipment) that Hudong-Zhonghua has undertaken so far, which is an important milestone.
It is reported that the ship owner of the project is Spanish shipping company IBAIZABAL, and the operator is Total Energy. It is worth mentioning that this is the "second handshake" between Hudong-Zhonghua and TOTAL Energy after 2018, which further consolidates the foundation of mutual friendly cooperation.
According to the introduction, the latest order for the world's newest V3.0 version of 18,600 cubic meters LNG refueling vessel has a wider refueling range and better performance indicators than the V1.0 version delivered by Hudong-Zhonghua in 2020 and the V2.0 version delivered in 2021, and has reached the world's leading level. With a length of 135.9 meters, a beam of 24.5 meters and a depth of 16 meters, the vessel is classified by Bureau Veritas (BV) and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026.
In particular, the ship uses a large number of green, environmentally friendly and low-carbon equipment, making this world's latest V3.0 version of the refueling ship more "green". Its technical highlights are mainly reflected in "three more":
Firstly, the compatibility between ship and shore is better. Optimizing the design of high and low double refueling manifold platform, it is not only compatible with more LNG shore stations, but also matches with LNG-powered vessels such as very large crude carriers (VLCC), LR2 tankers, bulk carriers, container ships, and car carriers (PCTC), which greatly improves the compatibility and economy of LNG refueling vessels.
Secondly, lower energy consumption and emission. Adopting full rotary electric propulsion system and upgrading the main engine to a more efficient dual-fuel model, the ship can operate in full working gas mode, which reduces the gas consumption by about 14% under the designed working conditions. Moreover, the engine adopts two-stage turbocharging and other technologies, which makes the combustion more complete and reduces the amount of methane escaping by as much as 60%.
Third, better energy saving and environmental protection. The ship has green class symbols such as Sustainable Ship (SUSTAINABLESHIP-1), EU Green Passport (GREEN PASSPORT EU) and Clean Ship (CLEANSHIP), and adopts environmentally friendly equipments such as dual-fuel engine, dual-fuel boiler and natural gas incineration device that supports high inert gas treatment. At the same time, the LNG spray pumps, gas pumps and main seawater pumps all adopt energy-saving inverter drives, which greatly enhances the energy-saving, emission reduction and low-carbon environmental protection features of the ship's operation.
Previously, Hudong-Zhonghua has built and delivered two 18,600m3 LNG refueling vessels for TOTAL Energy, the V1.0 version of the vessel "Natural Gas - Swift" and the V2.0 version of the vessel "Natural Gas - Energetic", which were praised by the ship owner based on the first-class construction efficiency and ship quality. Based on their first-class construction efficiency and ship quality, they have been praised by the shipowners and become TOTAL Energy's main vessels in the LNG refueling field. The two vessels have completed more than 200 LNG refueling operations so far, which not only provide solutions for the global ship decarbonization journey, but also win good economic and social benefits for TOTAL ENERGY.
Hudong-Zhonghua has ploughed into the LNG industry for 27 years, and has formed a full range and coverage of high-end LNG products from ocean-going (271,000m3 and 174,000m3 LNG carriers) to offshore (80,000m3 LNG carriers), from inland waterway (14,000m3 LNG carriers and refueling vessels) to inland (land-based LNG storage tanks), and from small, medium-sized, large-sized to super-large-sized, making the company a true leader of the LNG industry chain in China. It has formed a full range and coverage of LNG high-end products and become a veritable "chain leader" of the LNG industry chain in China.
