Settlement in RMB! 6 Self-developed Large Container Ships Signed Contracts
On 18th October, Hudong-Zhonghua, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), and China Shipbuilding Trading (CS Trading) signed a new contract for the construction of 6 self-developed 13,600 TEU large container ships.
The shipowner of this batch of orders for Canada Seaspan company, will use RMB settlement, is so far one of the few shipbuilding orders signed by foreign shipowners with this payment method directly in Chinese shipbuilding enterprises, to promote the internationalisation of RMB is of great significance.
At the same time, adopting RMB settlement will help Hudong-Zhonghua to reduce exchange risk, enhance profitability and market competitiveness, and also help shipowners to reduce financing cost and improve trade efficiency.
This vessel is another green container ship independently developed and designed by Hudong-Zhonghua, with a maximum loading capacity of 14,132 TEU and 2,000 reefer spaces. Designed with the latest concepts, it is equipped with desulphurisation towers and energy-saving devices, which can meet the ship owner's subsequent demand for green fuel modification and ensure low energy consumption, high speed and green performance.
It is understood that since 2021, Hudong-Zhonghua Trading and Seaspan have cooperated on more than 20 container vessels, car carriers and other vessels, and the series of vessels signed this time are scheduled to be completed and delivered between 2026 and 2028. At present, Hudong-Zhonghua's hand-held civil ship orders are all for green and high value-added ship types, and some of the production lines are scheduled to be completed after 2030.
